KYC Policy

Last reviewed February 2026 — version 1.0. This document forms part of the legal framework governing your use of the PEL1 crypto compliance platform.

Document requirements

PEL1 requires three core documents to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) verification: a valid government-issued photo identity document (passport, photocard driving licence or national ID card), a live selfie captured during onboarding for biometric facial-similarity comparison, and a recent (≤ 3 months old) proof of address such as a utility bill, council tax statement, mortgage statement or bank statement showing your full name and residential address.

Verification provider

Document authenticity, optical character recognition and facial-similarity scoring are performed by Onfido (or an equivalent regulated identity verification provider). Onfido is regulated under UK data protection law and operates a SOC 2 Type II certified platform. Their outputs are returned to PEL1 and reviewed by a qualified compliance officer before a verification decision is issued.

Verification outcomes

Each KYC submission can result in one of four outcomes: approved (your AML score and account are upgraded), pending (additional documents requested), rejected (with a clear explanation and a route to appeal), or escalated for manual enhanced due diligence. You will be notified of the outcome by email and in-app notification.

Review window

Standard KYC review is typically completed within one to two UK business days. Pro and White-glove tier customers benefit from a 24-hour service-level agreement. Complex cases requiring manual EDD may take up to seven business days.

Re-verification triggers

Customers may be asked to re-verify their identity on material life events (change of legal name, nationality or residential country), 24 months after their last verification, on detection of unusual transaction patterns, or following the issuance of new sanctions or watchlist designations.

Refusal and appeals

If your KYC is refused you have the right to a written explanation and to submit additional supporting documents within 30 days for re-review. PEL1 does not discriminate on the basis of nationality, race, gender, religion or political affiliation, and refusal decisions are documented and audited internally.
